JUBA, 18 December 2019 – PETRONAS through its subsidiary, PETRONAS Carigali Nile Limited (PCNL), together with Jubek State Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare, organised a Christmas celebration today at the Juba Orphanage Home which houses approximately 58 children aged between two and 20 years old.
The event, an initiative under PETRONAS’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, was officiated by Jubek State Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, the Honourable Rose Lisok Paulino, and PETRONAS South Sudan Operations Acting Country Chairman, Saiful Azlan Abd. Zahid Shaghia. They also presented six months’ worth of food supply for the Home.
Prior to the event, representatives from PETRONAS took the children for Christmas shopping for new clothes and shoes, in preparation for the Christmas celebration.
Saiful, in his speech, said: “PETRONAS would like to express our appreciation to the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, in particular to the Jubek State Government, for its support for this programme. We understand that Juba Orphanage Home relies heavily on charitable donations and Christmas is a time of giving. It is a wonderful experience to be able to meet with the children and carers of the Juba Orphanage Home and we are delighted to have spent time with the children during this festive season,” he added.
PETRONAS in South Sudan also carries out the PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme (PESP) with 80 scholars having benefied from the programme to-date; the Water for Life projects which benefitted more than 40,000 people in Juba; and a blood donation drive.
